The Beautiful Chapter No One Prepares You For

This is more of a personal story...one I’m realizing as I navigate the franchise journey. It’s about a chapter I didn’t even know existed: the shift from raising children to entrepreneurship, and discovering that a new purpose can begin when you least expect it.

I spent years raising our children. Driving them to practices, cheering from the sidelines, helping with homework, packing lunches, and building my life around theirs. Somewhere along the way, their dreams became my dreams too.

Then one day, the house got quieter. The calendar wasn’t as full. Our children were building lives of their own, and while we were incredibly proud of them, I found myself asking, what’s next for me?

For 17 years, my purpose was raising three incredible kids. All three were athletes who eventually played college sports, and for many years, helping them chase those dreams became my full-time job. I was, and still am, their biggest cheerleader. I loved every minute of it.

But as they left for college, I realized something. It wasn’t that I had lost my purpose. My purpose was simply changing.

At 42 years old, I decided it was time to do something for me. I didn’t have a business plan or know exactly where the journey would lead. I simply knew I wanted to create something that brought people together.

Flowers gave me that opportunity. They gave me a new sense of purpose and helped me rediscover a part of myself that had quietly been waiting for this chapter of my life.

Building a business hasn’t always been easy. I’ve faced criticism, setbacks, and moments when it would have been easier to quit. But every challenge reminded me of the same lesson I spent years teaching my children: stand up for what you believe is right, lead with integrity, cheer others on, and keep setting your goals higher than you think is even possible.

Today, my children are building lives of their own. They are navigating the daunting job market, new cities, relationships, and all the changes that come with this stage of life. I’ll always be right by their side. But somewhere along the way, something beautiful happened. The roles began to shift, and the children I spent so many years cheering on are now cheering me on, too.

This journey has become bigger than I ever imagined. Today, I have the privilege of helping other women discover their own next chapter. Whether they’re leaving a corporate career, becoming empty nesters, raising young children, or simply looking for something that’s theirs, I get to watch women believe in themselves again. I get to help them chase their dreams, build their next steps, and create something meaningful for themselves. That has become one of the greatest blessings of this entire journey.

My children will always be my greatest accomplishment. But this new chapter has taught me something I’ll never forget: life doesn’t stop when one chapter ends. Sometimes that’s exactly when the next one begins.

And here’s what I know now: you are allowed to reinvent yourself anytime. You are allowed to dream again. Some of the most inspiring women didn’t build their biggest successes until later in life. Martha Stewart built her media company in her 50s. Vera Wang entered the bridal industry at 40. Julia Child published her first cookbook at 49. Sometimes the dream arrives when you’re finally ready to receive it.
